Overview

Ethics is the foundation underlying all regulation and compliance. Ethics and values provide the justification for most regulatory standards, supervision and enforcement. These ethical principles are vital for firms and practitioners to understand how to comply.

This interactive workshop is designed especially for Senior Financial Adviser (FA) Managers and Senior FA Representatives who are interested in applying ethical trends, culture, regulatory developments and an ethical maturity approach to enhance their ethics leadership in their organisation. This course meets the new FA-CPD requirements and leads to positive business impacts and sustainable cultural change.

This course is recognised by IBF as 4 Core CPD Hours in Ethics.

This course is awarded in association with the Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester.

Course Format

  • Half day interactive workshop to maximise your learning experience. The course will be delivered through case studies
  • Online exam (multiple choice) that can be taken after the course using your own IT device. You have up to 2 months to complete the exam via the online platform
  • This course is designed to meet the 4-hours FA-CPD Ethics requirement

Entry requirements

Employed or experienced in the FA industry in a senior position. Prior subject matter knowledge will be useful, but is not essential. To get the most from the course, a good standard of English is required.

How you will be assessed? 

At the end of the interactive workshop, you will take a multiple choice exam of 12 questions.

Upon passing the exam, you will be awarded: 

  • ICA Certificate in Ethics Leadership for Senior Managers and Senior Financial Adviser Representatives

Funding

This course is eligible for Financial Training Scheme (FTS) funding. 50% funding of direct training costs subject to a cap of $2000 per participant per programme.

In order to be eligible for funding: Singapore-based financial sector entities - Financial Institutions and other entities regulated by The Monetary Authority of Singapore (either licensed or exempted from licensing) sponsoring staff who is:

  • A Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident;
  • Of executive level 2 and involved in or supporting financial sector activities;
  • Physically based in Singapore;
  • Either permanent or contract (= 1 year) staff, and engaged either on a full or part-time basis.

Singapore Citizens aged 40 years old and above will be eligible for 90% co-funding of direct training costs, subject to existing grant caps of S$2,000 per programme. Singapore Permanent Residents will continue to be eligible for 50% co-funding of direct training costs for FTS programmes.

Trainer

David Jackman, Fellow of Cambridge University Business School

David was educated at Oxford and Cambridge (double distinction in Education). In his distinguished career, he was Head of Training and Competence and Business Ethics at the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA). At the FSA, David launched "An Ethical Framework for Financial Services" - the first ethical statement published by a financial regulator. The concepts in FSA Discussion Paper 18 now underpin approaches to regulation in many jurisdictions, including Singapore and Malaysia.

He was also CEO of UK Financial Services Skills Council. As primary author of the UK and International Standards for Sustainable Development (BS8900) and Sustainable Communities (ISO 37101), David also leads the UK's contribution to groundbreaking international standards for sustainable communities and smart cities.

He is currently the Director and Founder of 'The Ethical Space' and 'Ethics Foundation', and is also non-executive Director to several companies. He founded the Ethics Foundation and the 'Ethics Mark®' for value-led business, which he is launching in Singapore.
