In line with the recent UK FCA thematic review into money laundering risks and vulnerabilities in the capital markets, this course explores customer risk and financial market product and service risk typologies. It examines the specific financial crime risk factors involved in key customer types such as funds and exchanges and compares the vulnerabilities of major financial markets products, such as derivatives and foreign exchange. You will also learn more about the importance of the CDD process in mitigating these risks.

This course is awarded in association with Alliance Manchester Business School, the University of Manchester.

After completion of this programme, you will be able to:

  • identify the elements of financial crime risk from the wholesale banking and markets perspective
  • appreciate the implications of financial crime on banks and financial insitutions
  • draw comparison on some of the main customer types and the financial crime risks inherent in those businesses
  • distinguish the risk control implications of the main customer types on banks and financial insitutions
  • review some of the major financial market products and their susceptibility to financial crime
  • describe the risk control implications of the major financial market products on banks and financial insitutions
  • demonstrate how the financial crime risks specific to financial market are best mitigated and managed
  • illustrate the customer due diligence process and its role in the financial crime risk management cycle
  • compare each of the consituent elements in the customer due diligence process
  • Regulatory environment, risks and impacts on the world of corporate banking and financial markets
  • Market abuse, fraud and manipulation, tax evasion, sanctions risk
  • Risk exposure and specific customer typologies
  • Financial markets products and their susceptibility to financial crime
