What is the best way to reference online materials in my assignment? Should I use footnotes?
It is not recommended to us the footnotes as this will impact your word count. Reference to an online article requires the full thread (the URL that you can see at the top of the screen when you are surfing the net) as well as the title and author, for example:-
Linklaters LLP,"HM Treasury's Consultation Paper on the new UK Financial Regulatory Framework",
Linklaters(2011), www.linklaters.com/pdfs/mkt/london/A12925684.pdf [3 May 2011]
For more information about referencing, refer to the ‘How to reference’ section of the ICA Assessment Guidance 2014 within the Student Support Area of the learning platform.
When writing my assignment, does my reference list count towards my word count, I am concerned because some of the references are quite wordy.
Your reference list isn't included in the word count, however, references in the body of your text or in footnotes are included in the word count.
It is perfectly acceptable to shorten references within the text as long as these are detailed in full in the reference list. For more information about referencing, refer to the ‘How to reference’ section of the ICA Assessment Guidance 2014 within the Student support area of the learning platform.
If I use the assignment question as the title to separate the sections of my assignment will this count towards my word count?
If the question is retyped within the main body of the assignment this will be included in your word count, however, if the question is typed on a contents page (then refer to as Part one, part two, for example) then this will not be included in the word count.
